Democracy and cultural difference in the Spanish Constitution of 1978 [Recurs electrònic] / Jesús Prieto de Pedro
Description: 14 p. : digital, fitxer PDF (932,41 Kb) In: Democracy and ethnography : constructing identities in multicultural liberal states p. 61-80Summary: It is a difficult challenge for a jurist to speak to anthropological experts about their own subject matter --culture-- as an object of legal regulation, but the stimulus to contribute to an interdisciplinary dialogue makes this challenge an attractive one. I will analyze the treatment of cultural difference in the present Spanish Constitution (1978). We will consider the linguistic evolution of the constitutional text; such texts are condensed juridical language, something like a scale model of the juridical organization of a country. But first, to facilitate our dialogue, I want to clarify my lexical-semantic approach to the subject and make some general observations about public sector actions in relation to culture, as well as other issues surrounding the models used in taking those actions.
