Summary: This paper is intended to be a synthesis of current knowledge about social and cultural capital and their relationship to questions of citizenship. Its aims are to identify the role that these forms of capital play in the construction of cultural citizenship and to suggest how a conceptual understanding of them is useful to our understanding of the formulation of cultural policies. The paper is structured as follows: Section 2 describes what we know about social and cultural capital and includes definitions, analytical approaches, an overview of research findings and critiques of current approaches. Section 3 focuses on knowledge gaps with regard to social and cultural capital and the construction of citizens. Section 4 discusses the implications for policy and decision making, based on current knowledge and the analysis of knowledge gaps in Section 3. (Font: Introducció)
