Summary: In this, the second supplement to the Nonprofit Management Handbook, we have tried to provide what we believe are the best of the proven approaches to the effective operation and management of nonprofit organizations, in an accessible, readily useable format. In addition, through the inherent flexibility of the supplementation system, we can provide information and guidance in new or rapidly developing areas of nonprofit policy and management. In these annual supplements, as in the Handbook, we not only review and outline the policies and practices operating in the major areas of nonprofit management, but we also try to provide invaluable combinations of tips and checklists, further complemented by real-world samples and illustrations. The supplement contains two basic types of important information: updates from previous contributors, reflecting changes in policies or procedures that you need to know about; and expanded coverage through entirely new chapters. Updates in this 1995 supplement include changes to accounting procedures outlined by Richard Larkin of Price Waterhouse., and updates on unrelated business income reported by Jody Blazek. In addition, Elizabeth Power expanded her handbook chapter on leadership with a new section on the role of values in leadership. Just as important, through the supplement we are able to expand our coverage of management areas important to the success of nonprofit organization leaders. We are particularly pleased to welcome new contributors to this series, whose impressive expertise provides important additional coverage in such areas as quality management, leadership and values, board retreats, special events fund-raising, communications, marketing, and law. In addition, we have included a new nonprofit management glossary. The glossary covers fund-raising and planned giving topics and includes the most frequently used terms of quality management.
