Summary: Leisure studies has developed into a major academic field and a large, internationally significant profession since Professor Allan Patmore published his seminal book, Land and Leisure a quarter of a century ago. To mark his retirement, this volume has been prepared to provide a landmark inventory volume of the subject he did so much to create and develop, particularly stressing its links between leisure and the environment. This is no ordinary Festschrift but a carefully structured and important survey in it own right, tracing the major issues and themes of the subject from the local to the global scale. (Font: Editor)
