Summary: There has been a steady expansion of tourist activity throughout the world over the last few decades, particularly across international borders. Increasing personal incomes and the growth in world trade have stimulated demand while the fall in the real cost of air transport and the development of the package tour have acted as a considerable encouragement. The analysis of tourism demand and consumer choice is of increasing relevance in most countries around the world, and tourist activity carries considerable economic significance with implications for employment, transportation and regional development. As a result the characteristics, determinants and forecasting of tourism demand are of growing interest to academics, industrialists and policy-makers alike. This book highlights key aspects of choice and demand in tourism such as typologies of tourists, their motivation, factors that affect their choice of activities, and demand and forecasting models. It provides an international and up-to-date analysis for academic researchers within econon1ics, geography, business studies and tourism studies. The book will also appeal to policy-makers in central and local government as well as to tourist boards and tourism analysts within the industry and the financial sector. (Font: Editor)
