Summary: The expert seminar on UNESCO's project "Culture in the Neighbourhood" held in Helsinki in September 1992 was a direct continuation of the seminars held in Zurich (1989) and Viena (1991). An extra flavour was added to the meeting by the fact that the Seminar was arranged in the newly inaugurated community centre Kanneltalo. Although a small-scale project, "Culture in the Neighbourhood" provides an important forum for an exchange of opinions which is likely to generate experimental action and relevant follow-up in the future. The theme has been examined by experts on various aspects of cultural life. This has created an interesting spectrum which reflects a comprehensive concept of culture. In fact, we are processing toward a way of thinking in which the cultural milieu is seen as an essential part of the residents' way of life and world of values. (Font: Preface).
