Resumen: This book is a guide to the techniques to use when documenting a typical museum collection. It is directed at the concerned professional curator. While not meant to be an exhaustive or definitive study, it should act as a starting point for a museum considering how to improve its existing documentation procedures or a museum that is just being established. (…) We have been concerned to present a general overview of the features of a museum's documentation system. This includes a description of procedures to cope with both the initial receipt of objects and information by the museum and the subsequent cataloguing and indexing of permanently acquired material. The book is intended to be considered as an integrated exposition of documentation practice. Individual sections are not self-contained, but should be regarded as part of this whole.
