Summary: Objects of this study. A resolution adopted by the European Parliament on 13 May 1974 requested the Community Executive "to propose measures to be adopted by the Council to approximate the national laws… on copyright and other related intellectual property rights". Consequently, on 24 September 1974 the Commission of the European Communities instructed its departments to draw up concrete proposals in this field. Since this could not be done without a detailed knowledge of the current position and national laws on the subject in individual Member States, the first step was to arrange for a series of exploratory studies to be carried out by specialists.
