Summary: In order to delineate the conditions and social position of musicians, it is necessary to look behind the scenes. It is there, that the real life of a musician can be evaluated and net in the glamour of the stage light. It is there, that the silent battles with psychological pressures, with everyday problems, are fought. Broken dreams, loneliness, intrigues, frustration and depression are known companions to musicians. It is a fallacy of our time to think that those who are talented always succeed. It is, however, encouraging to see how much the modern society cares for the arts and the artists. There are governments, municipal bodies, private institutions, individuals, all concerned with the growth of artistic development and also with the wellbeing of the artist. If this still does not seem enough, it is perhaps because the needs of the artists have not been fully understood, because those who create opportunities for the artist wish to achieve an aim, different from that of the artist, and simply, because there are more good artists than opportunities. If concerned with the situation of the young musician at the early stage of his professional career, one will encounter many difficulties, problems and shortcomings. (Font: Introducció)
