Summary: Tourism and Leisure-Culture, Heritage and Participation and its companion volume Tourism and Leisure-Perspectives on Provision have evolved from work presented to the annual conference of the Leisure Studies Association held in Glasgow in April 1994. The 16 articles in this volume although presented in three sections: I. Central/Eastern Europe and beyond; II. Culture and Heritage; III. Popular leisure and participation are nevertheless related by their consideration of issues for leisure and tourism which involve 'culture', 'heritage' and 'participation'. These permeate throughout, although particular vantage points range from the implications for leisure and tourism of the political changes of recent years, to perceived problems of heritage and cultural identity arising from increased development and changing patterns of facility/amenity usage, to implications for leisure environments and their specific users.
