Summary: The unprecedented corporate growth of the late 1970s and 1980s is over, and little has been written on its impact on the visual and performing arts. Despite the enormous attention given to government and state subsidies, and the continuing debate over the impact of such relationships, both the academic and art communities continue to require analyses of private art patronage. Indeed, often at times, the data are insufficient and inconclusive. However, the authors herein have attempted to conduct small surveys and interviews, and to gather statistical evidence wherever possible. I commend them for their efforts and insights. They have entered a fertile area of research, and their preliminary investigations will serve future scholars, art administrators, and artists alike. (Font: Introducció)
