Summary: The Arts Council is currently developing an internal strategy and report for the street arts and circus sectors; this work is being led by the drama department. During the period June–September 2001, the Arts Council conducted a consultation exercise that involved soliciting the views of companies, individual artists, educationalists, promoters, membership organisations and funders. To complement this work the Arts Council appointed an external researcher, Helen Jermyn, to undertake a piece of research aimed at generating statistics about the street arts and circus sectors. This was a relatively small-scale research exercise comprising a single survey and covering a breadth of topics. The research provides a ‘snapshot’ rather than an exhaustive review of the state of the street arts and circus sectors. It provides a foundation on which future, more detailed and focused research might build. (Font: Introducció)
