1er Campus euroasiàtic de cooperació cultural

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Barcelona : Interarts, 2001Description: 97 fSummary: The present publication is a collection of materials prepared for or derived from the celebration of a Seminar on Euro-Asian cultural co-operation based on the experience of cities and urban projects, held in Barcelona (25th March 1st April, 1999). The origins of the Seminar can be traced to several realities. First, the urgent need to build bridges of understanding between Asian and European societies. This priority is to be found in the inception of the Asia Europe Foundation. Second, contemporary cultural exchanges at all levels could be an efficient way to promote a sensitive interest in each other. Third, the most efficient way to focus such multi-layered dialogue is by relating it lo cities. In fact, cities represent the best social as well as administrative unit where policies and actions can be shared and compared between Asia and Europe. The Seminar concentrated especially on the urban viewpoint, although ministry officials filled in the overall picture with essential information on governmental policies and strategies. Supranational and intergovernmental opinion included voices from UNESCO and-indirectly-the Council of Europe. The texts and reports gathered in this document should provide an insight into the realities and opportunities offered by arts and heritage co-operation between Europe and Asia, with special emphasis on the role that cities can play in spearheading the new era of transcontinental co-operation. As an addendum to the materials, we have included an article on cultures in Euro-Asian relations, offered lo the Seminar by the Ibero-Indian philosopher Raimon Panikkar. (Font: Introducció)
