| Resumen |
The Reflection Group of the ECF explored the cultural dimension of the European integration, with particular reference to enlargement, and developed recommendations in the area of cultural policy, engagement of cultural operators, their networks and private foundations, and cultural research. <br/>We argue for a substantially stronger EU cultural programme for the period 2007-2013, based on Article 151, now inscribed in the draft Constitution, which aims to stimulate multilateral cultural cooperation and the mobility of artists and cultural goods, and reduce the enormous ignorance of the European citizens about each other. In analyzing some negative cultural consequences of the economic globalization, the Group reaffirms the value of cultural diversity against the homogenizing pressures of the cultural industry and especially emerging media oligopolies, suppressing local cultural practices. A counterweight should come from the cultural policies on all government levels, as part of public policies. That culture is a part of public policy is a unique European accomplishment and distinction, inspiring the rest of the world. (...) (Resource: Executive Summary)<br/>. |
