The fifth regional hearing on the cultural policy of North Holland, (Bergen, 27-30 January 1987) is an important contribution to Project No. 10 of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of the Council of Europe.<br/>Taking place as it did during a period of transition, this hearing fully achieved its objectives: to contribute towards a greater understanding of new issues, such as the social aspect of culture; to confirm the responsibilities of the regions and the impetus required of them; and to put forward examples of initiatives which may be applied by other cultural decision-makers and agencies in Europe.
