NOTA DE RESUMEN | The report is in two parts. Part One presents an overview of existing provision for the arts in education as described in the returns to the survey. .It identifies a number of key themes which are common to provision across the member states. It sets this discussion in the 'framework' of analysis which has emerged from the original background paper and through the discussions of the expert group. <br/><br/>Part One concludes by identifying a number of issues which now need to be investigated further through this activity. Part Two presents short national profiles of provision for the arts in education in each of the countries which took part in the survey.<br/><br/>This survey provides only a general guide to provision for the arts in education in member states. There are two principal reasons for this. First, the information provided by the ministries can only give a partial picture of what is actually going on. Inevitably, it provides an official view of policy and practice. The practical experience, and perceptions, of the many individuals and institutions who work in the arts and education within the different member states may vary considerably. Second, in all countries, significant processes of reform are in hand in the substance and the management of educational systems. In some, serious attempts are being made to re-evaluate the place and significance of the arts and in particular the relations of children, teachers and artists. In others, there is a trend against the arts and the educational values and practices they are taken to represent. <br/><br/>For these reasons, the survey can provide only a snapshot of a rapidly changing and complex situation. Nonetheless, the survey does point to some important general trends and has filled some significant gaps in current knowledge. (Font: Introducció) |
