The Spoleto Round Table in 1996 was the first opportunity for a public debate on the symbiotic relationship between culture and employment in Europe, and the trends in cultural employment. It involved a wide participation of experts, researchers, administrators and the representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO. This report of the Round Table provides a timely contribution to the current debate on the topical issue of the potential of the cultural sector in face of the employment challenge in the European countries.
