NOTA DE RESUMEN |
The main goal of this study is to identify those elements of cultural policies that might have directly or indirectly been affected by the EU enlargement. It aims to identify policies, common to different countries, which have already had an impact on culture, or might do so in future.

Respondents in ten selected countries were surveyed to see if there was any evidence of direct or indirect impact on policy-making in several cultural policy areas. Using the survey results and the findings of comparative studies, it outlines a framework in which cultural policies in transition countries are being redefined and reformulated.

It argues for more proactive policy-making at the EU level, to ensure that national policy measures, especially in new EU member states, remain compatible with the European and international regulatory framework that is having more and more of an impact on culture.
