In celebrating its 60th birthday, the Dutch Association of Theatres and Concert Halls (and Festivals), VSCD, decided to host the half-yearly meeting of Pearle in the Netherlands, June 2007. For this occasion close collaboration was sought with the Boekman Foundation, Netherlands study centre on the arts, culture and related policies. The joint preparation started October 2006 and the objective was to revisit in an inventorial and analysing way the relationship between governmental bodies (national states, regions and municipalities) in Europe and the performing arts. A kick off paper was designed and distributed through the available international networks. Our contacts throughout Europe were asked to provide us fresh and relevant information on the subject: public policies on performing arts in Europe. The conference will focus on four main aspects of government support for the performing arts: <br/>a. State and Market<br/>b. Small, smaller, smallest: upsizing and cooperation<br/>c. Understanding and negotiation: examples of a good contract between government and the performing arts<br/>d. Beyond marketing: education & outreach. (Font: Prefaci) |
