Dimension culturelle du développement

Resumen: The cultural dimension of development constitutes one of the major themes of Unesco's doctrine. It began to take shape at the Venice Conference (1970) and developed at the succeeding regional conferences held during the last decade: Helsinki (Europe 1972), Yogyakarta (Asia 1973), Accra (Africa 1975), and Bogotá (Latin America 1978). The World Conference in Mexico City (1982) provided the opportunity to study the concepts in great.er depth, consolidate Unesco's views around this key theme and demonstrate its validity both for Third World countries and for the increasingly interdependent industrialized countries. An important stage was reached when acceptance was won for the concept of a cultural aim. (…) The documentary research contained in this paper is based on this principle and also on the principles that emerged from the reports of that major conference. The reference documentation also includes that Part of Programme XI of the Second Medium-term Plan (1984-1989) 'Culture and the future' which is mainly concerned with cultural development and cultural policies (XI.4). As a corollary, reference is made to the study of the relationship between culture and techno-industrial development, particularly the theme of the effects of techno-industrial development on cultural identity (XI.2), which, like the cultural dimension of development. should be viewed in terms of its interactions with education, communication, science and technology and the environment. This study also carries on from the International Co-operative Research ('Transformations sociales et dynamique culturelle'), conducted under the direction of Paul-Henry Chombart de Lauwe for many years now, which constitut.es a network of individual researchers or research teams carrying out coordinated and comparative research in some 20 countries.
