Resumen: This research report examines the recent and still ongoing decentralisation processes in the cultural sector in four Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The research concentrates on three aspects: the distribution of financial responsibility between the state, the regions and the municipalities; the responsibility for regional cultural institutions; and the reorganisation of the public cultural administration at the local level. Theatres, orchestras, museums and public libraries constitute the core of cultural policy in the Nordic countries, and they are therefore in focus of the analyses in the project. Important research questions are: what is the current status of these institutions within the reform processes? Who has the financial and administrative responsibility for these institutions? What seem to be the preferred solutions of the regional cultural institutions themselves? Do they want reduced direct state intervention or do they feel that this could mean increased financial uncertainty? (Font: Editor)
