Resumen: This volume is the outcome of the third conference and contains 20 Chapters, which are concentrated around four main themes i.e. (1) Global Outlooks, (2) Global warming and key issues towards COP 6, (3) Global modelling and future scenarios, and (4) Sustainable development and developing countries. Jonathan Lash (World Resource Institute, WRI), Robert Kates (US National Academy of Science), and Marion Cheatle (United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP) in their respective papers and Tom Jones (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD), and Robert Ayres (Centre for Management of Environmental Resources, France) as panellists examine global outlook and new threats to the globe, bearing in mind that Rio + 10 will be held in 2002. It is more obvious now than ever before that environmental pollution, depletion of non-renewable resources, and degradation of the natural environment -caused by industrialisation, urbanisation, and economic growth, and also by continuous population increases-are each posing new threats to the survival of humankind and the environment.
