520 ## - NOTA DE RESUMEN
Resumen The Educational Role of the Museum is a compilation of recent and important articles that address me relationships of museums and galleries to their audiences. The book falls into two sections. The first part coven broad themes relevant to providing for all museum visitors and the second part focus specifically on educational groups. Part one introduces theories of communication and the mass media in the context of the museum environment. It examines patterns of visitation and ways of enabling visitors to feel welcome. This first part also looks at exhibition theory and gives examples and case studies of good practice in the use of objects, language, interactive exhibits and evaluation. Part two looks in detail at education provision in museums in Britain today. It includes a wide range of articles and extracts covering the learning styles and characteristics of children and adult and methods of evaluating education programmes. The editor emphasises the need for museums to develop their educational role in the light of the increasing emphasis on value for money and the need to improve the quality of the visitor experience. The book will be invaluable for students and museum professionals who wish to develop their awareness of contemporary thinking in museum communication and education. (Font: Editor)
