520 ## - Resumen
NOTA DE RESUMEN This is Volume IV of four of the Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Cultural Economics and Planning which was held May 26-28, 1982 in Maastricht, Holland.
l. This fourth volume of the proceedings for the 2nd International Conference on Cultural Economics and Planning is devoted to papers on markets for art and the consequences for artistic careers. Art works examined by the fourteen papers in this volume range from computer games and television to books, paintings and on to the performing arts. Hence, a broad range of cultural suppliers are included - the cultural institutions and commercial cultural industries. Some of the papers study private market behavior. (See papers by C.D. Throsby, C. Abt, S. Gold, U. Franger, and E. Helmstadter and C. Waits and McNertney) Many of the papers, though, are concerned with public market intervention policies designed to promote art and artists in particular ways.
This volume is divided into two sections - Markets for the Arts and Economic Aspects of Careers in the Arts. Markets for the Arts is further sub-divided into three parts: Demand, Supply, and Demand/Supply. Most papers though, are concerned with Market Supply questions or with artists career options.
II. Markets for the Arts. The section on Market Demand includes the papers by C. D. Throsby and Broekman. Throsby concentrates on the qualitative influences operating in the markets for the performing arts. A comprehensive list of qualitative criteria are presented, some of which ought to be important to various market interests -performing organizations, funding organizations, and arts consumers. These sources of satisfaction are grouped as: source material and technical factors regarding the performance, benefits to audiences, benefits to, society in general, and benefits to the art form. Throsby, being most interested in qualitative influences on audience demand, suggests that the first three sets of criteria are most pertinent and sets out to develop measures and models to capture their influence on audience behavior. Then, for each of three Australian theaters demand curves are estimated using price and a set of qualitative measures as the determinants of demand. (Font: Introducció)
