Resumen: During the twentieth century the production of culture, and especially of popular culture, has become an international multi billion dollar business. In the United States, for example, cultural products such as bestsellers, popular music, Hollywood films and television programmes are at present the country's second largest export. Up to now it has been the cultural products themselves and their aesthetic status and moral desirability which has attracted the most notice. The activities of the industries associated with these products have received less attention. This book takes a closer look at the activities of publishing houses, record companies and film companies and presents new data on the organization and strategic management of arts related industries. The author charts new approaches to risk management and the 'multirationat' enterprise. All these are central concepts in any business concerned with cultural products: the theories developed around them produce a postmodern approach to management which has important insights for more conventional management settings.
